It just sounds nice.
A name like Prairie Village conjures up images of Laura Ingalls' pigtails and tall grasses waving in the breeze and folks who greet each other at the supermarket without a hint of irony. Not surprisingly, there's a fountain sculpture of a prairie family in town at the intersection of Tomahawk Road and 69th street. And while people in these parts have traded in their covered wagons for mini vans and SUVs, they haven't forgotten their manners. This is a diverse town where everyone agrees on being friendly, keeping their lawns mowed and eradicating every last dandelion from the planet.
Homes for everyone.
The beauty of Prairie Village is its affordability and diversity. Up here in Northeast Johnson County, homes range from the modest to the not so modest, in dollars that means less than $200k to the multiple millions. Many face tree-lined streets and offer expansive yards you'll love—especially if you hire the neighbor's kid to cut the grass. People love Prairie Village because the trees have been around since the last ice age and offer that kind of comforting shade and postcard loveliness only a really old tree can provide. Swings made from tires are optional, but have been known to raise property values.
Weekend suburbanite.
With its close proximity to Kansas City, Prairie Village lets you work and play in the city while resting and relaxing far from neon lights and car horns. Many of the nations prominent companies, including Hallmark, H&R Block, and AMC Entertainment all call Kansas City their headquarters. Regardless of your industry, the metropolitan area offers plenty of career ladders so you can climb to the top and add that sun room off the kitchen your neighbors will envy.
IQ Boosters
The students of Prairie Village attend the acclaimed Shawnee Mission School District, which was ranked in the top 4% of U.S. districts by Expansion Management magazine. Over 76% of the teachers have masters or doctoral degrees. Obviously, there's a lot of smart going on here.
Gather round.
Though the population of Prairie Village is approximately 25,000, this city puts together some big entertainment and cultural offerings. The Prairie Village Arts Council sponsors the annual State of the Art Exhibition where you might discover the next Picasso or purchase something to hang above your couch. Plenty of parks encourage picnics complete with baskets and gingham tablecloths. In winter, these same parks double as practice runs for families who wish sledding was an Olympic event.
Homey, affordable and easy on the eyes. Prairie Village is the American dream with an extra half bath.
